Help us finish the preparations to open 2 miles of new hiking trails at the Horseshoe Road Nature Preserve by June. The new trail leads visitors through pine and hardwood forest, across several streams, and past an exquisite wetland that’s home to beavers, otters, waterfowl, and songbirds. All individuals are invited to help. No previous experience needed. We provide the tools, training, and supervision. Sign up for one or more work days. Each volunteer day will be led by a TRLC staff member or experienced volunteer. Trails will be constructed using hand-tools including loppers, hand saws, rakes, and shovels. Volunteers may help construct wooden footbridges and benches and install signs along the trail. Tools and safety equipment will be provided by TRLC. New volunteers will be paired with experienced volunteers who will provide training and support. Once the Horseshoe Road Nature Preserve is opened to the public, visitors will have access to the trails year-round during daylight hours. Volunteers can look forward to returning to this nature preserve to enjoy the trails for years to come!
