July 30, 2018

Zachary Cohen and Jacob Thomasson are serving as stewardship interns for Tar River Land Conservancy this summer.  Mr. Cohen and Mr. Thomasson’s duties include inspecting many of the TRLC’s protected properties located across an eight-county region.  Additional projects have included trail-building with community groups and volunteers at the Ledge Creek Forest Conservation Area and updating TRLC’s land and monitoring records.

“Zach and Jacob have brought energy and drive to these internships, which is demonstrated by their work,” highlighted Derek Halberg, TRLC’s Executive Director. “We’re fortunate to have them as TRLC team members this summer.  We trust that the experience they’ve gained with TRLC will benefit their conservation careers.”

Mr. Cohen is a junior in the University Honors College program at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia, majoring in Geography and Agribusiness.  He is a 2016 graduate of Chantilly High School in Chantilly, Virginia.  Prior to college, Mr. Cohen was active in the Boy Scouts of America, where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout and was selected as a member of the Order of the Arrow.  He previously worked for the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Alexandria, Virginia.
