Join Tar River Land Conservancy (TRLC) on Earth Day for a 1½-mile hike on the Gantt Tract, an 842-acre property acquired by TRLC in December 2017. Hikes will be offered starting at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Hikes will be led by biologists Harry LeGrand, retired from the N.C. Natural Heritage Program, and Alvin Braswell, retired from the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences.
Each hike will follow along Dickens Creek, a scenic stream that flows into Lake Holt soon after exiting the Gantt Tract. Hikers will learn about the diverse hardwood forest that shades the creek and the wildlife that inhabit the creek and surrounding forest.
Each hike will be limited to 40 individuals and pre-registration is required. The hike is rated as “moderate” and will require crossing Dickens Creek on boulders. Please wear sturdy shoes and field clothing suitable for walking off-trail. We request that dogs, other than registered service animals, not be brought to the event.
