Ducks Unlimited Tract

High/Stony Creek Tract

Valentine Tract

Edwards Tract

Ducks Unlimited Tract

104.6 acres, North Whitakers Township, Nash County

This tract of land was sold to The Nature Conservancy by Ducks Unlimited in February 2001 and the title was then transferred to the Tar River Land Conservancy. This tract is an entirely forested property which contains floodplain forest natural communities along Fishing Creek and its tributary, Crooked Swamp. This tract provides a significant riparian buffer to the aquatic biodiversity of Fishing Creek.

High/Stony Creek Tract

Approximately 32 acres, Bunn Farm, Stony Creek Township, Nash County

This tract of land was donated by John and Caroline High to the Tar River Land Conservancy in November 2001. A conservation easement has been placed on this property helping to protect this area of the Upper Tar River Region and its nationally significant natural heritage that is due to its number of rare aquatic species and relatively pristine water quality.

Valentine Tract

7.24 acres, Valentine Farm, Town of Spring Hope, Nash County

A conservation easement on this land was donated by I.T. and Barbara Valentine in December 1999 to the North Carolina Coastal Land Trust, though the Tar River Land Conservancy will ultimately be the easement steward. The Valentine property consists of mature mixed pine hardwood forest, pasture, farm pond and cultivated fields. The easement protects a riparian buffer along the Tar River and an unnamed tributary that border the Valentine property. These waters are considered nationally significant due to its number of rare aquatic species and relatively pristine water quality.

Edwards Tract .

Approximately 87.5 acres, North Whitakers Township, Nash County

In July 2005, the Edwards Family placed a permanent conservation easement on their property. The easement runs along Fishing Creek at the Nash and Halifax County boundary.

This project was made possible by the NC Ecosystem Enhancement Program.
