Hall Easement
Approximately 232 acres, Upper Fishing Creek Township,
Edgecombe County
In May 2006, TRLC completed its first Edgecombe County
land protection
project, placing conservation easements on 232 acres
along
Fishing Creek near the Draughn community. TRLC worked
with
the property owner, Louise McGwigan Hall of Raleigh,
to secure
the easements, which will forever protect four miles
of buffers along
the creek, as well as adjacent bottomland hardwoods
and cypress
wetlands. The land has been in Ms. Hall’s family
since at least
1825. Staff from the NC Natural Heritage Program have
rated the
site, which is recognized as part of the Fishing Creek/Enfield
Bottomland
Natural Area, as State Significant.
This project was made possible though support from
the NC Ecosystem Enhancement
Program.
